CHOSEN FOR A PURPOSE

By Pastor Anthonia Amadi
Main Scripture: John 15:16
“You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you.”
What Does It Mean to Be Chosen?
To be chosen means to be selected deliberately, handpicked for a specific purpose.
Salvation begins with a divine proposal. Jesus extends an invitation to the entire world: anyone who believes in Him becomes a child of God. When an unbeliever hears the call and responds, “Yes, Lord, I receive You into my heart,” something profound happens. In that moment of agreement, He chooses us.
The invitation is open to all, but not everyone accepts. Those who reject the call remain outside the chosen circle. But the moment you say “yes,” you sign up for a lifelong dependency on Jesus. You agree to be led by Him, to depend on Him for everything—for the rest of your life.
John 1:11–12
“He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him. But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name.”
The instant you receive Jesus, you are transferred: from ordinary people bound in sin and death → to sons and daughters of God.
To be a son or daughter means:
You are an heir
You are a partaker
You inherit everything that belongs to the children of God
You now belong to Jesus
1 Peter 2:5, 9
“You also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house… But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.”
We are chosen, called out, set apart. Our sins and iniquities are remembered no more (Jeremiah 31:34). This new identity should make us deeply aware of God—because knowing who we serve changes everything about how we serve.
Knowing the One Who Chose You
Exodus 33:13–19 and Exodus 34:6–8 reveal God’s nature: merciful, gracious, longsuffering, abounding in goodness and truth, forgiving iniquity, transgression, and sin.
Every nature of God is now the nature of His sons and daughters. When we receive Him, He gives us power to become His children (John 1:12). A son should resemble his Father. If God is your Father, you carry His traits—His character, His stability, His unchanging nature.
Knowing who chose you brings stability. God does not react; He remains constant. When you are secure in His unchanging character, your service to Him becomes steady and unshakable.
Ordination and Appointment
John 15:16 again: “I chose you and appointed you…”
Ordination is more than a ceremony with oil and laying on of hands. The moment you are born again, you are:
Chosen
Appointed
Ordained by God
Appointment means responsibility. It means work. It means you have been positioned to fix things, to establish something, to bear fruit.
The Great Commission is your appointment. Jesus believes you can carry it out.
We are not all the same vessel—different vessels for different uses—but every believer has a ministry. The mission is never about us; it is about:
Bearing fruit that remains
Making the name of Jesus famous
Announcing Him to the world
The ultimate goal is fruitfulness. Jesus commands us to bear fruit that lasts.
What Are the Fruits?
The primary fruit is souls: men and women accepting Jesus into their hearts.
First, they receive Him as Savior and are born again.
Then, they surrender their lives fully to Him.
Genesis 49:22
“Joseph is a fruitful bough, a fruitful bough by a well; his branches run over the wall.”
This blessing spoken over Joseph is the blessing God pronounces over our lives. To be fruitful requires:
Strength (spiritual endurance)
Deliberate decision
A determined heart that says, “Lord, I’m going to find every opportunity to bear fruit”
Fruitfulness doesn’t happen by accident. It demands intentionality. Every day presents chances to share the Gospel, show Christ’s love, pray for someone, testify, invite, encourage, or simply live in a way that points others to Jesus.
You Were Chosen for This
You did not choose Him—He chose you.
He appointed you.
He ordained you.
He expects fruit that remains.
Your life is no longer your own. You belong to the One who chose you before the foundation of the world. Live like it. Depend on Him. Reflect His nature. Bear fruit that lasts.
The world is waiting for the chosen generation to rise and proclaim the praises of Him who called us out of darkness into His marvelous light.
Will you embrace your appointment today?
Will you bear fruit that remains?
You are chosen. You are appointed. Now go and be fruitful.
If this word stirred something in your spirit, take a moment right now: thank God for choosing you, ask Him to show you opportunities to bear fruit this week, and step out in obedience. Your “yes” to His proposal launched a purpose that will echo into eternity. Share this message with someone who needs to remember they, too, are chosen.
Amen.
